Blackmagic Design has announced Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync. With this new Blackmagic Cloud storage feature, users can sync media into a Davinci Resolve bin while recording, and editors and colorists can start working while the camera is still recording.
When Blackmagic Cloud was introduced by Blackmagic Design in 2022, DaVinci Resolve included the ability to log into the storage service and store project files in the cloud instead of into the user’s local drive. Now, with the Cloud live sync feature, users can access the clips straight away and start editing and grading while the camera is still recording, speeding up the workflow.
Cloud Live Sync: connecting production and post-production in real-time.
With the new feature, postproduction professionals can see and start working with the media from any location while the shooting is still happening. Blackmagic Cloud live sync uses the ability to record the full-resolution HD proxy in H.264. The Cinema Camera 6K, PYXIS, URSA Cine, and URSA Broadcast G2 share this feature, which allows those files to live sync to Blackmagic Cloud as they are recorded. Then, they are also synced down to the Davinci Resolve workstations connected to the cloud project. The connection is automatic, making the process pretty straightforward.
The process on the camera is pretty simple, too: the user logs into Blackmagic Cloud and selects a DaVinci Resolve project before recording. After that, the recording starts live syncing to all connected DaVinci Resolve workstations. In multi-camera recordings, the new multi-sync feature shows all cameras in a multi-view.
The new feature is helpful in many scenarios. Imagine a production where the shooting is happening in one location, the colorist is working on the footage simultaneously in another part of the world, and the result is watched on location as soon as the camera stops rolling. In news workflows, an event can be recorded and edited simultaneously and aired immediately.
Live syncing media from our cameras directly into DaVinci Resolve bins is a workflow revolution. This simply has never been possible before. It’s just like live streaming into the DaVinci Resolve bin, even when dozens of DaVinci Resolve systems are collaborating via the same Blackmagic Cloud project. This is very exciting, and it looks amazing when you see it working live!
